The launch of the forum comes as part of youth-led efforts to promote and document the Zaghawa language and to create a space for dialogue and discussion on various linguistic issues, including writing and the alphabet, language education, documentation, vocabulary, oral heritage, and the development of linguistic content. The forum is expected to serve as a platform for communication among those interested in the Zaghawa language, providing teachers, researchers, and young people with an opportunity to exchange knowledge and experiences, while also discussing initiatives that can contribute to expanding the use of the language in everyday life and in the digital environment. Such initiatives are particularly important among Zaghawa communities in the diaspora, where language represents one of the most important elements of preserving cultural identity and strengthening communication between generations. It also serves as a vital means of transmitting cultural knowledge and heritage. The Zaghawa Language and Heritage Center welcomes and commends this youth-led initiative and emphasizes the importance of supporting community forums and initiatives that contribute to serving and documenting the Zaghawa language, while encouraging young people to participate actively in its development and preservation. The Center further emphasizes that the future of the Zaghawa language requires coordinated efforts among cultural and educational institutions, researchers, teachers, youth, and Zaghawa communities in Sudan and the diaspora, in order to ensure the continuity, development, and transmission of the language to future generations. Language is the memory of a community, and protecting it is a shared responsibility across generations.
